STUDENT POLICIES
ON ARRIVAL
Please arrive for class at least 5 minutes before scheduled time. The most important and beneficial part of the class is at it’s beginning. Arriving late disrupts class and is not an accepted practice. Please visit lavatory before classes begin.
ATTENDANCE
All classes should be attended. In case of a non-contagious illness, students should attend class and watch as much is to be learned from observing. In case of contagious illness, students should make up their missed classes in other previously schedule classes within a week or two when they are in good health. Dancers should ask their classroom teacher which class to attend. If a student will be absent, please call the studio and let us know (978-664-2767). In cases of prolong illness however, teachers will work with students to enable them to catch up with what was missed.
When students miss class often for other then medical reasons, restrictions will apply for their performance eligibility. It is impossible to instruct students who are not in class and unfair for the rest of the students to repeat past lessons because of other's absences. For this reason, at the instructor's discretion, students that have missed classes may, unfortunately, not be allowed to be part of any formal performances. Missing more then four classes for any one class for the year is considered excessive and students are made aware of the consequences.
If North Reading Public Schools call off school because of poor driving conditions, we do as well. If NR calls off only morning classes, we call off only morning classes. If NR calls off afternoon activities, we call off our evening classes. In case of Saturday snowstorms, please check our web site front page or call the studio by 9:00.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES
Any evening in which student drivers are attending classes and the roads are icing and could cause problems in their drive home, we will call each one or send a message on facebook to inform them that we will reschedule the class when it is safer for them to drive.
Illness spreading precautions, teachers are all instructed on preventive measures that will be performed before and after each day of classroom activity. If a student appears to be ill and with fever, we will call home to advise her parents of the appearance of flue-type symptoms and have her sit out of class.
Because of peanut allergies, we ask that no one bring in peanuts or peanut butter in any form.
In cases when you may be late picking up your dancer, we will keep her in our classroom or depending on her age, she may wait in the waiting area until you arrive. Be aware that there is usually no official personal in the waiting to watch over her and she should wait inside to watch for her ride. The last class of the evening - please do not be late picking -up your dancer. Please be on time.
Students may stay between classes and do their homework or watch videos. If they are also eating a meal they need to thoroughly clean up after themselves. There is no food allowed in the pro-shop or the dance studios.
DRESS CODE / BEHAVIOR
Please follow our dress code as written. No baggy clothes are allowed in class because they prevent the teacher from being able to make proper body corrections for alignment and technique. No jewelry is to be worn during class, no cell phones on or text messaging, no gum and no food in the classroom. Water should be brought to class and we have two water bubblers. Student conversations should take place before or after class, not during. We desperately need parent support and co-operation as far as clean and proper attire being worn to class.
